Week 1212/12/2021 This week was the very last week to do my workouts and progress a bit more before I do my last vertical jump to see how much I have progressed throughout the project. This week I have had practice all this week and two games, but I have jump roped 3 times this week and did my workout listed on the week 2 blog on Saturday. Today I am going to do my final vertical jump of the project and I am hoping that it is around 30 inches. Then I am going to make a video of me trying to dunk and seeing if I can dunk. For this project, I wasn’t really trying to aim for dunking as much as trying to get my vertical jump up so if I am able to dunk on 9.6 ft or 10 ft then I will have exceeded my goal a little bit and I would feel pretty good if I am able to dunk on one of those two height goals. If I am not able to dunk on either of those heights I will just keep working on my vertical. This summer I plan to jump rope every day and get on a workout routine because I won’t have school to worry about and I will have as much free time to do this as I want.
Reid: This week was the last week for me to work out before I have to show all of my progress. I was able to work out 3 times this week even though I had practice because I knew I had to finish strong for this project. Coming out of this week I am pretty positive that I am going to accomplish my goals of raising my max by at least twenty pounds because I am lifting more than I was at the beginning by significantly more during my workouts. The last thing I have to do is record my maxing-out video for week 12 and finish my presentation. Mason: This is the last week where all my work and process I've made will show. I worked out 4 times this week doing my normal workout. All I did differently was go up in weight and did it for many reps. I gave it my all this last week because I really need to show how my improvement has grown. I have learned a lot from doing this project and even after this project is over I plan on using and keeping up with my plan so that it can show improvement on the field.

Week 1112/12/2021 Coleman: This week has not been the most productive as the other weeks because I have basketball every single day of the week and don’t get home until 6 and I got homework almost every day of the week with 2 project grades due Friday. But I have been jumping rope every day so I could keep my legs loose so I won’t decrease my vertical. My knees have gotten worse over time because I am noticing them as I should so it is really hard to progress even when I try to push myself. I am starting to ice my knees now and put heat on them after every practice and trying to jump rope every day. I hope to get my vertical jump up to 30 inches by week 12 which is next week. So far I have seen a good bit of improvement and progress on my jumping and I can actually tell a difference from the start of this project. Next week I plan to jump rope all week and get my schedule planned so I can get a good workout and try and get a little bit of progression for this last week.

Week 1012/1/2021 Coleman: This week I have seen a little bit of progress and I feel like I have gotten past the struggles and I am now on track to get a 30 inch vertical by week 12. I truly believe that I will be able to get a 30 inch vertical by week 12. I am still jump roping every day and I can tell that my vertical has increased a lot this whole project. I am very glad that I picked this project because it helps me with sports and I really have enjoyed pushing myself to get better and to get on a routine that helps me. I am going to keep doing this to increase my vertical after this project because I have seen how much jump roping and working out has helped me throughout this project.

Week 911/22/2021 Coleman: This whole week I have jumped rope, had basketball practice all week and I had a scrimmage for basketball in Iredell County. I am glad I chose this project to do and I can see the progress I have made. Now that I am in the 75% stage of this project means I am going to use these last three weeks to push myself hard and get to at least a 30-inch vertical. Jumping rope has helped me and I am kind of mad that I didn’t jump rope every day at the start of the project. Although I am glad I did figure out a method to help increase my vertical jump because it has helped me very much and I think I’m going to reach my 30-inch vertical goal as I planned at the start.

Week 811/22/2021 Coleman: This week I have jumped rope every day and I feel a little bit of progress. Basketball season is starting now and I have practice every day until 5:45. When I get home I try to jump rope and Thursday and Friday I will do my workout listed on the week 2 blog post. After Thursday and Friday of this week, my legs are looser, and when I had practice on Saturday I felt that I was jumping higher. For now, I am going to keep jump roping because I can tell that It really helps to jump rope. Jump roping is really easy and it’s funny how such an easy thing can help increase your vertical and help with leg strength and bounce.
Reid: Mason: This week I have been better at managing my time so that it won't take as long to get my goal done. I try to do multiple exercises to warm up/ strengthen my legs.

Week 711/17/2021 Coleman: For this week I have had basketball tryouts and practice. I haven’t been working out as much as I need to but I am going to get back into the routine. I plan on working out on the weekend. My vertical has increased some since week 1 and I want to keep going with my progress. Next week I plan on working out on Thursday and Friday because I have no school and it will be easy to work out since I don’t have much time in the week because of basketball and the time I get home. During basketball season I think we will be in the weight room and will most likely work on legs and arms so that I can get my legs stronger and get more bounce. For now, until week 12 I will jump rope every single day because someone suggested that I should jump rope every day and it will help me get quicker on my feet and that it will help me increase my vertical as well.
Reid: This week has been overall pretty successful. I was able to work out a couple of times because football is finally over. I would have been able to work out probably once or twice more if I didn’t have wrestling practice. I plan to try and stay consistent with how many times I work out each week. I can tell that I’ve become stronger but I still don’t feel like I am where I want to be. Mason: This week was very slow due to a busy schedule. I was able to really start hitting the gym more but not for long amounts of time. We did legs and speed. I plan on still hitting the weights hard and going out more to run sprints. I plan on doing long distances at the fast face and then once I get better at that I’ll work on perfection at a shorter distance and an even faster speed.

Week 611/17/2021 Coleman: This week I didn’t work out as much because I have been busy with basketball and I got home late every day. I did my vertical jump this week and I videoed my jump to show my progress. I measured a 27-inch vertical jump on Sunday and I was really aiming to get around 27-28 inches. I feel like I could have gotten 28 and my max vertical jump is probably 28 if I really stretched but I hope to increase my vertical to at least 30 inches by week 12 and then my goal will mostly be reached alongside being able to dunk as my other goal.
Reid: Mason: This week I still did my regular workout schedule and football schedule. Football has been super tough on my body so working out has been more of a struggle than normal. I ran my 40-yard dash and got a 4.75. I’m going to continue to work out and try to get faster every week. It will take a lot to get .05 taken off of my time but I am going to train hard so that I can accomplish my goal. I feel like I will be able to get a 4.7 time because I am very explosive and fast off the start.

Week 510/27/2021 Coleman: This week was a really productive week and I see good progress. I worked out twice this week and went to the YMCA Sunday. When I went to the YMCA I jumped up and grabbed the rim and almost dunked in a game on 1 foot. Seeing this much progress already on week 5 makes me feel productive and feel like I have been improving which is what I am aiming for with this project. Next week I am doing my next vertical jump to see my progress from week 2. I plan on at least a 28-30 inch vertical jump. If I reach this goal I plan on getting a 32-inch vertical jump by week 10 and hope to get 34 inches by week 12.
Mason: This week I have been very productive and I can start to see some progress. I worked out twice at Torque and practiced football every day. I can see my sprints getting shorter and my strides getting longer and quicker. Next week I plan on taking another 40-yard dash run and seeing if my workouts and football are paying off. I plan on trying to cut my time down by .02 second. That may not seem like a lot of time cut off but in a 40 every second is valuable. Reid: This week I have been a little bit productive, but not as much as I could because I have been really busy with football. I have been doing the workout listed and I feel a little more progress from week 2 to week 6 but after football, I plan on working out more and getting stronger. Next week I will do my bench max and my squat max to show my progress. I hope to have a max of 135 for benchpress and a squat max of 200.

Week 410/20/2021 Coleman: This week I think I have made progress and done most things well. I worked out once at a gym and once at home. Next week I plan on going to the gym twice and working out at home using my vertical focused workout twice next week. Soon in 2 weeks, I will do another vertical jump to see my increase and improvement from week 2. My goal for my vertical is to be at 28 inches or even 30 inches if I have made that much progress. This week I had basketball workouts twice which helped get my legs loose and my knee feeling better which will help with my vertical jump.
Reid: This week once again I have made a little bit of progress but not as much as I wanted to. I was able to work out one time outside of football practice and it wasn’t a very difficult workout and I kept it pretty light because I was very tired. Next week I plan to work out a couple more times instead of only being able to do it once. I hope I am able to reach my goal by the end of the 12 weeks although I know I will have to step it up in the upcoming weeks if I wish to do so. Mason: Yet again this week I made very little progress due to a busy schedule. We played Friday against West Forsyth and I had an injury that occurred in my ribs which has really limited the amount of running and lifting I can do. I plan on a fast recovery so that I can get back up to pace so that I can achieve my goal.

Week 310/11/2021 Coleman: This week my knee has been killing me but I have worked out my whole body at the gym and did my workout listed on the week 2 blog once this week. I feel like I could have done the workout from week 2 twice this week but my knee has been hurting. I think that working on my physical strength in my legs and arms both are helping get my legs stronger and doing the workout that can help increase my vertical will help a lot. I am seeing a little bit of progress but not enough for my goal to be done by week 12. These past weeks I have also had basketball which has been helping get my legs loose and stretched more. Next week I plan on going to the gym two times, doing the workout I made to increase my vertical two times next week, and basketball workouts 3 days of next week.
Reid: This week I haven’t been very successful with achieving my goal, due to practice and a large amount of homework I haven’t been able to work out besides at football practice. The workouts at football practice are very short and won’t really help me toward achieving my goal in the 12 weeks that I have. I am hoping that next week I won’t have as much homework to do so I can make time to work out at least a couple times. Mason: This week I haven’t been very successful with doing things to lead up to achieve my goal due to loads of homework and football. I do workouts everyday at football to help lead up to my goal but not as much I need to be doing. I plan on going back to my gym to help grow my speed and leg strength. Hopefully this coming up week my homework load will go down and football will motivate me to do more. |
